A Health Journey Rooted in Boundaries and Balance
I’ve been reclaiming my health—not only through food and supplements, but by learning how to listen. To really listen. Not just when things fall apart, but in the quieter moments, too.
What once felt like subtle whispers in my body are now messages I take seriously. I’ve come to understand that wellness isn’t just a state I arrive at—it’s a rhythm I must stay in relationship with.
Earlier this year, I noticed myself feeling more fatigued than usual. My energy was dipping, my thoughts were cloudy and waves of anxiety were rising. In the past, I might have dismissed these signs, powering through or overriding them altogether. But this time, I paused and paid attention.
Recent bloodwork revealed I was low in iron, B12 and vitamin D—while continuing to manage Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune condition that impacts the thyroid. These markers didn’t come as a shock, but they did offer clarity. Instead of spiralling into fear or ignoring the data, I met it with curiosity and care.
Where once I would’ve pushed through until I burned out, now I respond earlier. I no longer wait for crisis to wake me. That alone feels like healing.
Iron – The Root of Vitality
Iron is the mineral that steadies us. It breathes life into our blood and grounds us into the world. My iron levels were technically within range, but my ferritin—a key storage form—was depleted.
Rather than panicking, I saw this as a gentle nudge. A reminder that strength isn’t just physical—it’s also energetic. That low iron, for many women, is a reflection of long-term overextension and emotional depletion.
“The people who are most likely to develop chronic illness are those who have difficulty saying no.”
— Dr. Gabor Maté
This spoke to me deeply. I’ve been learning to honour my “no” without guilt and to protect the spaces where my “yes” feels true. But healing isn’t linear. Sometimes we drift off course. Sometimes we push through until the burnout hits.
The difference this time was awareness. I noticed the signs sooner—and instead of spiralling, I got proactive. I returned to my practices, began nourishing my body again, and paid closer attention to those gut-level no’s that once went ignored.
I’ve come to see how deeply our gut health shapes our ability to discern. When the gut is inflamed or depleted, it’s harder to tell the difference between truth and conditioning. But as I’ve tended to my gut, my boundaries have become clearer. The healthier our gut, the more easily we can access our inner knowing—and that is where true alignment begins.
Vitamin B12 – The Spark of the Nervous System
B12 supports nerve health, mental clarity and energy. My levels, while within range, were again on the lower end. A few years ago, I might’ve brushed this off—but now I read between the lines.
I know what it feels like when my inner fire dims. As someone whose nervous system was shaped in early life by over-responsibility, I’ve had to retrain myself to feel safe in rest, in stillness and in joy. My body lets me know when it’s running on fumes—and this time, I listened sooner.
“The body keeps the score: it remembers what the mind may forget.”
— Dr. Bessel van der Kolk
Instead of bypassing these signs, I’ve been supporting my nervous system with better nourishment, deeper sleep and a growing willingness to receive.
Vitamin D – Sunlight in the Soul
Vitamin D is tied to mood, hormones and immunity. It’s created when we receive sunlight—both literally and symbolically. My levels had dropped and when I saw that, I didn’t judge myself—I got curious.
Where had I been dimming my light? Where had I forgotten to tend to me?
I’m often the one holding space for others, but these days I’m learning how to hold space for myself, too. The body always tells the truth.
“Your biography becomes your biology.”
— Caroline Myss
This wasn’t a failure. It was feedback—and it invited me to come back to my own warmth.
Hashimoto’s – A Call Back to Self
Hashimoto’s has been a long-time companion on my healing path. But what feels different now is how I relate to it. Where I once felt betrayed by my body, I now understand its symptoms as sacred signals.
This condition has taught me to speak up, soften boundaries that became walls and strengthen the ones that honour my truth.
Women are often conditioned to care for everyone else first. We self-silence, self-abandon, and call it love. But I’ve been learning that true care must include ourselves.
“When you do not own your power, your body will often express the consequences.”
— Caroline Myss
My recent results showed slight fluctuations—but nothing extreme. That in itself felt like a win. A sign that I’ve been tending well enough, early enough.
From Over-Responsibility to Soul Responsibility
The numbers 33 and 333 have been showing up everywhere.
A cosmic reminder:
I am not here to martyr myself.
I am here to live aligned—mind, body and spirit.
I’m not here to carry the weight of the world.
I’m here to live aligned—in my body, with my truth.
I can love others without losing myself.
And I can listen to my body before it has to scream.
If You’re on a Similar Path…
Begin by listening. Trust the nudge before it becomes a roar. Honour your body as a wise and loyal guide—not something to fix, but something to tend.
Nourish your nervous system.
Say no with love.
Say yes with presence.
Let rest be your rebellion.
You’re not too sensitive.
You’re sensitive enough to feel what’s real.
You’re not behind.
You’re returning.
You’re not broken.
You’re remembering.
When I first began healing,
I thought I was becoming—
becoming stronger, better, more whole.
But over time, I realised…
I’m not becoming something new.
I’m unbecoming everything I never was.
Peeling back the layers,
returning to what was always true.
Not a reinvention—
a reclamation.
Warm Hugs,
Lamisha
